Katja Herbers is a child of Vera Beths who plays the violin and Werner Herbers on oboe. As a child she visited America along with her mother when the L'Archibudelli chamber group toured. Her mother got married again Anner Bylsma the cellist and her father got married to costume creator Leonie Polek, who brought her to theater. Growing up, she had an au pair in Canada, and learned Dutch German and English. Herbers was educated at her school, the Ignatius Gymnasium. She was an Amsterdam University. In her studies in psychology she attended the local theatre academy De Trap. Then she moved from Amsterdam to New York and went to the HB Studio.
